Policies

  • Class A uniforms are to be worn to and from any Scout outing.
  • NO open flame of any type is allowed in tents. NO candles, open flame lanterns, etc.
  • Build fires in a cleared area. Never leave a fire unattended no matter the size of the fire. Put all fires dead out with water. "Dead out" means that you can hold the ash in your hand and not get burned. Low impact camping dictates that you not make fire rings from stones; fire discolors the rock. Use established fire areas rather than make new ones. Any Scout who wants to set a fire lay must have his "Fireman's Chit" in his possession. Ask the Scoutmaster before laying ground fires.
  • Pressurized devices of any kind - butane, propane, Coleman fuel, white gas, etc. - may not be used by anyone, Scout or adult, without authorized training witnessed by having a "Toasted Chit."
  • Use only dead fallen wood for fires. Remember, small fires are used for cooking.
  • Garbage and trash should be collected and disposed of properly. Never bury refuse as it will be dug up by critters.
  • Never ditch around your tent. Other than taking more time than picking a better campsite, ditching adds to erosion possibilities and will leave you a mess to clean up.
  • Water spigots, where they are available, are for obtaining drinking or cooking water. DO NOT wash any dishes in cold water at a spigot. Dishes washed like this are not clean or healthful. The troop uses the two-bucket dishwashing/sanitizing system in which you will be trained.
  • Use the latrines (out-houses, port-a-potties, e.g.) where they are provided, and leave them clean for the next person. Where latrines are not available use a cat hole or latrine as discussed in your Scout Handbook.
